Communique- Renting of Tourist Accommodation - Mauritius Tourism Authority

The Tourism Authority hereby draws the attention of the public that owners of bungalows/villas/campements /guesthouses /tourist residences /pensionnats/apartments which are being made available for rent for a period of less than 12 months, should be in possession of a valid Tourist Enterprise Licence delivered by the Tourism Authority in order to operate as Tourist Residence or Guest House as per the provisions of the Tourism Authority Act 2006 as subsequently amended.

Tour Operators and other agencies which are offering accommodation facilities for rent for a period of less than 12 months, should ensure that these accommodation units are duly registered with the Tourism Authority and are holders of a valid Tourist Enterprise Licence, failing which, legal actions may be taken against them.

The Tourism Authority is currently carrying out inspections with the assistance and collaboration of the Police Force throughout the island to check whether these establishments are operating with a valid Tourist Enterprise Licence within the framework of the law and as per established norms. Contraventions will be established against all operators trading illegally within the tourism industry.
