
The Ministry of Tourism is working in collaboration with Reef Conservation for the control of population outbreaks of Crown of Thorns (COTs) Starfish with a view to protecting corals especially at main diving sites.
Reef Conservation has started the control exercise of the COTs at the following dive sites:
· Pointe d’Esny (3 sites)
· Holt Rock – G. Baie
· Whale Rock – G. Baie
· Pointe Vacoas – Pereybere
· Cratere – Trou aux Biches
· Stella Maru – Trou aux Biches
· Jenny’s Spot – Trou aux Biches
· Aquatab – Trou aux Biches
· Temple – Trou aux Biches
· Dalblair – Mahebourg
· Eau Bleue
In this context, pleasure craft operators/skippers are kindly requested to inform Reef Conservation of:
· any COTs infestations or observations with respect to improvements on coral populations at dive sites following control exercises.
· the number of COTs observed, found dead, etc at specific locations; and
· any other related observation that could help towards the protection of our coral reefs would also help
