Tourism in Mauritius is highly dependent upon its environment. In order to ensure environmental sustainability demands appropriate monitoring, protection and conservation and tourism development policies are necessary to maintain the integrity and attraction of the environment. It is therefore necessary that the tourism destination be continuously improved and upgraded towards excellence. In this context, the Tourism Authority has embarked on a project for the cleaning and embellishment of the destination. Accordingly a cleaning team has been set up.
The project involves:
s Cleaning of tourist areas such as beaches and bare lands
s Removal of fly-posting around the island
s Spraying and fogging of bushy areas
s Embellishing the motorway and spots visited regularly by the tourists
§ Planting of shrubs
§ Cleaning, refurbishing and painting of bus stops in different colours: green in villages, red in town and blue along the coastal regions.
§ Placement of bins in tourist areas
This will contribute towards the building and sustaining a quality and cleaner tourism destination.
